Homosexual Lifestyle Accepted in Christian Faith? Print E-mail

In a recent poll by Barna Group homosexuals were surveyed for their Christian commitment and some startling information was revealed. While it shows that “straights” are more committed to their Christian faith, homosexual commitment is not too far behind.

Almost half (47 percent) of heterosexual adults surveyed qualified as born-again Christians in comparison to 27 percent of homosexuals. Also, 75 percent of heterosexuals reported having made "a personal commitment to Jesus Christ that is still important" to them today. 58 percent of homosexual adults agreed with them. In both groups, many considered themselves a Christian.

There is a cataclysmic error in believing that someone can continue in a lifestyle of sin and yet be a committed Christian. When someone is truly born again their heart is made new, and their desire is to live a life of holiness and righteousness. To live a life resigned to commit homosexual acts is not a sign of true faith. While there might be temptation, to completely cave in to sexual disorder and accept it as legitimate is not an indicator of the Holy Spirits indwelling inside of you. The fruit of the indwelling Holy Spirit is self control. While there are people who are born again who struggle with homosexual temptation, just like any other sin, a true Christians calls homosexuality what it is: a sin to be resisted, not a lifestyle to be accommodated. We live in a fallen world, and that fallenness does impact people’s sexuality, but the Gospel can save people from a homosexual lifestyle. “Do not be deceived… homosexual offenders… will not inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God (1 Corinthians 6:9-11, NIV).” According to Scripture you can be a former homosexual, but you cannot be a Christian homosexual.

While some might justify their homosexual lifestyle by “interpreting” portions of Scripture differently, in their hearts there is truly no peace. God condemns the homosexual lifestyle throughout the Old and New Testament. Interpreting these parts of Scripture differently is in direct opposition to the Gospel. This is a part of an ongoing misinformation campaign by those who reject historic Biblical Christian ethics. I spoke more about this in response to a Newsweek’s article, Our Mutual Joy (Click here to read it).

Denominations accepting homosexuality include some Anglican and Episcopalian churches, the Presbyterian Church (USA), the Reformed Catholic Church (USA), the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, United Church of Christ, United Methodist Church,  Metropolitan Community Churches, and the Unitarian Universalist Association.  Many Christians have had to leave their denominations recently because of the denominations departure from faithful Biblical teachings. We can not allow Biblical Christianity to be defamed by churches that refuse to honor God’s word.

God’s word is clear that marriage is supposed to be a reflection of the relationship of Christ, the bride groom, and his redeemed people, the bride. Homosexual acts destroy the picture of the Gospel of Christ that marriage provides.

In my opinion, it is not possible to choose to continue living in a lifestyle
that you know is sin according to God's Word and still be a born-again
Christian. Nowhere in the Bible does it say you can continue in your sin and be
in God's will for your life. We are called to repent - TURN AWAY FROM our sin -
and follow Christ.

That said, I do believe that people who have spent their
lives in a sinful lifestyle - homosexual, or otherwise - will continue to have
